Located in the heart of Val Sans Retour, the Arbre d'Or is a piece of art created by François Davin in 1991. After a devastating fire in 1990, the l'Arbre d'Or covered with real gold leaves was set up by this artist to symbolize the rebirth of the forest but also a fact that nature is fragile and precious.

L'Arbre d'Or est inauguré en 1991 à l'entrée du Val sans Retour, sur la commune de Paimpont. Ce symbole de la forêt est instauré en tant que souvenir des incendies ravageurs de 1990. Au pied de cet arbre, se trouvent des ardoises pointées vers le ciel, lesquelles se transforment en Ogres ou en Korrigans, afin de faire fuire le malheureux qui tenterait de s'emparer des feuilles d'or.

As part of a massive re-plantation scheme, artist Francois Davin created his "L'Arbre d'Or", a chestnut tree covered with gold leaf and surrounded by five blackened trees.

About the Forest of Brocéliande. About 18 miles (30km) west of Rennes, the forest of Paimpont is all that remains of the vast forest that covered ancient inland Brittany aka Argoat. Legend has it that the 25 square miles (40km2) of woodland is also the location of mythical Brocéliande, the forest of King Arthur.
